Solution for tripod locating pin?
 

Is there a solution for using a tripod locating pin on the 5D2?

My shoulder rig quick release twists after a day of use, no matter how much I tighten it.

For now I think the best solution is the DSLR 2.0 mount from Red Rock micro. Other solutions are the Manfrotto 394 plate or possibly adding a bracket from RRS Really Right Stuff ... Quick-Release Camera Body Plates

Thanks Dan. I'm avoiding a rails setup for the time being, so the Redrock baseplate doesn't work as well for me.

But the RRS brackets look promising ... do they have a hole for the locating pin from my tripod quick release plate?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't have the locator pin hole, they are designed to be used with their own quick release system which is very secure. Also the tripod socket is moved off centre a fraction, which may be an issue for you depending on your setup.

That said it mounts very securely to the bottom of the 5dmkII as it has a curved lip to stop any movement at all. The Manfrotto plates should get a better grip on the metal than the 5dmkII base, but I haven't field tested it as I'm going with the Redrock solution.
