Beachtek DXA-5D

Has anyone got a hold of the new Beachtek DXA-5D for their 5D Mark II yet? I would love to hear about some personal experiences with it.

At their site, they say they are sold out-- whatever that means. BH says taking orders.

I haven't seen any significant specs on the unit, and haven't heard about testing. The original idea was to feed tone through the adapter, but their site seems relatively unclear about that, though ad indicates it does reduce wild swings of AGC.

I am curious too and wondering about results. I am attempting to marry the JuicedLink CX231 in a similar manner, as it has preamps on board.

My experience with the DX4-A was that it has a noisier floor, but I am wondering if the new set up they made resolves that. Anyone ?

The Beachtek is probably fine if you have a high-sensitivity mic and a strong signal. With a low-sensitivity mic, if your mic is far from the source, or if your subject speaks softly, a good quality active preamp is a must. The Beachtek has a passive signal path.

I was kind of holding out for one of these new beachtek's too - but lately I am leaning towards a separate portable device as a solution. Kind of a pain to match up the signals but it would be much more flexible.

On Philip Bloom's site, he talks about external recording devices with the 5DII and a plug-in for Final Cut Pro that syncs up the signals from multiple sources.
