Possibly a dumb question
 

I thought I could run a cord from my Zoom 4n to my Mark II for audio and that would overide the on board audio, but all I get is static. Can someone tell me if what I am trying to do supposed to work? I was able to get my wireless to work, so it should be possible. Thanks for any help.

My guess is that the static is the camera recording its own internal noise because it cranked up the gain on an empty signal. Are you sure the H4n was sending audio?

So what I am trying to do should work then? Maybe I have a cable that is not right. It is a stereo cable on both ends. Do I need to configure anything on the zoom or camera?

If H4n has "LINE OUT" then 5D MKII can not accept it directly as it has "MIC IN"...

4n does not appear to have a mic out, only line out. Thanks.

You need to PAD the output from the recorder, I had a special cable made for my recorder.

Sorry, you are right , I missed this. You need to connect the line out of the H4n to a cable that has an in line attenuator. You should be able to get one made, basically you will have XLR sized barrel in line at some point. You could use one of these Shure - A15AS In-line Switchable Attenuator with XLR to jack cables but you would be better off with a custom solution.

In the UK I use Pinknoise systems for this stuff, not sure about the USA.
