Recording without liveview and other questions

Hi, I recently bought a 5d2, I would like to ask:

1) Is it possible -in theory, with magic lantern..- to activate the video recording when the camera is NOT in live view, so to have H2ISO, faster autofocus and slower shutter speeds?

2) Which is the best way to control focus in a reportage-like situation, when the camera moves from close-ups to larger shots with wide depth of field and different subject to focus on at different distances?

3) Is the backtrack device for audio a good tool also for reportages? Does it sticks with the camera so that it's possible to run-and-shoot, or remains connected only with the mini-jack cable?

4) If the BT device isn't okay, and the sennheizer 400 is directional, could anyone suggest a wider range mic for the 5d2?

5) Is there a remote controller able to control the lens [zoom and focus]?

Thank you,
A.

1. No there is no way to shoot video w/o live view.

2. Use manual adjustment on zoom. There are lot of follow focus attachments available. IE Zakuto and Redrock etc. Search these forums.

I use a zip tie with a 3" "lever" left on works great and it is cheap.

3 & 4. I use an external Audio recorder and Sennheiser K6 mics they can have cardioid, super cardioid, lav or omni heads., and are very good for the price.

5. Yes you can find them, but they are not cheap. They work with follow focus systems. And you would have to do some retro fitting.
