I've had no problems using nikkor lenses on the 5DmkII. The only issue I had was with an old Pentax m42 50mm f1.4 - If you focused to infinity the rear element would sink just far enough into the body to clash with the mirror. Now, it wasn't enough to harm anything, and I got used to close focusing before I switched to live view, but it's something to think about. I don't know if the nikkor will be the same however.

what about the dust issue, should I be worried?

this one here looks a bit different especially the back end. Its fine though right?

A little dust is normal for a lens this age. It shouldn't affect the picture much if at all, and worse case you can just have it cleaned.
Now that I'm looking at this lens, it has that raised rim around the rear element housing. I feel like this might interfere with your mirror. The good news is that you don't harm the function of the lens if you file that down. The problem with f1.4 lenses is that their design usually requires the rear element to be much closer to the sensor, especially toward the infinity focus range. The mirror in the 5D is very large, and doesn't give much room for any protrusions into the body. Some people I've known have gone as far as to shave the mirror in their camera down to allow for these lenses to work. This is one of the limiting factors of a full frame design.

The Nikkor 50 1.4 works fine on my 5D mk2. Here is a link to a previous post on the subject.

I read you post earlier also, the don't look similar, the two glasses, yours shows some rear element housing too. Yours was fine?

The ebay post shows the metalic hook or whatever looking different than yours. Different series?

Yes mine worked fine, but Richard had to cut the tab off his lens to get it to fit. I don't know what the difference could be. Richard's is an older lens than mine and the listing on Ebay you provided is for an lens older than Richards so you may have to cut the tab off if you buy it.

If you hunt around surely you can find a nice 50 1.4 AI or AIs for not much more, MF Nikkors are going for really low prices.

Surely whether the lens is AI or not is irrelevant if it's going to be used on the 5DII? You may as well save money & buy the cheaper totally manual lens.

AFAIK all the AI and AI-s Nikkors work fine with the EOS adapter do they not?
If you've got the budget a lot of people seem to liking the Zeiss lenses, they make a 50 1.4 in EOS mount and it's apparently superrb optically and being manual focus it should have lovely smooth mechanisms.

How would a zeiss 1.4 compare in price? And the adapter(how much)?

The Zeiss is quite pricey Zeiss 50mm f1.4 Planar | but it should be very good and it'll attach directly to the camera rather than needing an adapter as it's Canon EF fit.

wow! $725 on b&h, ouch! Can the f be controlled manually like on the nikon 50mm 1.4?

It's all manual, no AF, proper aperture ring - it's definitely the one to have, no question, but as you say, it is pricey. As are the others in the range - they do a 21mm (which by all accounts is one of the best 35mm lenses of all time!), an 85 1.4, a 35 f2 etc. Why not just get a whole set?!!!
