Shutter Speed: 24P (& laptop screen)

Hello all,
In General:
I'm filming in 24fps what shutter speed is recommended? 50 / 60?

Specifically
I have a year old MacbookPro that will be in several key shots I'm filming this weekend.
(I don't see Ghz of my display)
What shutter speed so I don't get Banding on the Computer Screen?

Thanks!
John

Banding is an artifact from tube displays. Laptops don't have them. You shouldn't see banding on it. Are you seeing banding?

Great!
Thanks Les, No I was just trying to think of everything in the middle of the night....

What about best shutter speed for 24p shooting with the 5D?

Thanks
J

I'm assuming it would be 50
(doubling 24)
ish.
Thanks
J

I shoot 24p with a 180 degree shutter.

Mitchell Lewis December 10th, 2010 03:49 PM

48 is the correct answer, but 50 is the closest available shutter speed on the 5D. So 1/50th is what you want for shooting 24p.

Mitchell, there's no "correct" shutter speed, though there are many instances when you can use the "wrong" shutter speed; shooting at 1/50th under 60 Hz lighting being an obvious example...

Great shoot last night
