View Finders viewing distance!

Can anyone confirm Z-finder or any other well known view finders will let you "peek" at the screen without actually having to put your eye right on it? If subject is not moving, I want to set the focus once by looking right into the view finder and then just peek at the screen indicators (mainly record indicator) from distance. I know cinevate's cyclops will let you do this, but wondering if there are any other view finders as well. Thanks.

Nice thing about the magnetized view finders is that you can pop them off after the close focusing is acheived. You can actually wear them around your neck.

Thanks Chris,

Is it possible to attach/remove the z-finder without affecting the shot? (ie. without not moving the camera)

When you say z-finder, you may be referring to a specific brand... ie., Zacutto's brand rig. Zacutto has both magnifier viewfinders, and an electronic one that is actually an LCD finder that turns off the camera's main LCD, as I understand it. I am sorry that I didn't catch that distinction in the original post.

I was speaking of the generic finders like Zacuto's non-electronic one, like these.

3" LCD VIEW FINDER / EXTENDER FOR CANON EOS 550D DSLR - eBay (item 330532397913 end time Mar-20-11 11:00:23 PDT)

They have a metal square that attaches via double sided tape to the camera lcd. Then the the magnetic rim of the viewfinder attaches to that metal piece, and the finder can be easily removed.
