how to get the video properties of clips on the PC?
 

I downloaded quite a few videos from 5D to PC, and I forgot to write down the different settings I used, most of all the different ISO values...
now I tried to copy a few back into the 5D but the computer won't let me - the only settings the computer tells me are the length, fps and definition

is there a way to find out those details (ISO and aperture) once the videos have been offloaded out of the 5D?

Open your video file with Canon ZoomBrowser. Under View set Show Shooting info.

It's so cool that I was just sitting here editing and had this same exact question. I come to my favorite 5D forum and here's an answer!

But I tried to find my shooting properties with Zoom and the window only provides file name, size, type, and a histogram. Nothing else in the available fields including "Shooting Information". I also would like to be able to find out what ISO I was shooting at for a particular clip. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Make sure you haven't deleted the xml file or moved them into different folders. The xml file contains all the info.

ZoomBrowser works for me. The Shooting Information inside the Properties panel shows info including ISO. You must have the THM file along with the MOV file however, as that is where the info is stored.

When you shoot video two files are created, a MOV and a THM, both with the same name but different extensions. For example: MVI_0325.MOV and MVI_0325.THM. Many people will discard the THM file when they transfer because they are not needed to play the movie. However, they do store the info about the movie and are needed to see that info.

So, the THM file is created and stored along with the MOV file on your card in the same folder and should be transfered and stored with your MOV files if you want to access the info about the MOV file.

it doesn't seem my case. I only see 1 mov file for each movie I shoot.
I checked and I don't see those THM files anywhere

any help appreciated...

could it be a problem of using the camera as a hard drive rather than using a CF card reader? (see post below) - still when I browse the card I don't even SEE the THM files....

I noticed that if I directly link the camera to my computer's usb and copy files over from the camera, only MOV files end up on the computer.

But when I stick the CF card in a reader and plug that into the computer I get both the MOV and the THM files.

I think I found the solution.
only by transferring files via ZoomBrowser I also get the other info files...

for some reason this doesn't happen otherwise....

Importing movie files into Photoshop Lightroom 3 also gives you ISO, Aperture and Shutter, as long as you import with the .thm files intact.

Given that the 5D mkII is an OK camera too, I figured many might also have LR. ;)

With ML version I'm using on 550D I have ability to generate log files. Txt if I remember correctly.
If you don't use zoombrowser and have Magic Lantern then look if ML for 5d2 has that feature.

I also use ZoomBrowser for this sort of thing but one other program that is fantastically useful for finding out what a file actually is, is MediaInfo
