gl2 for wedding shoots?
i own a gl2 and love it but most of my shoots are outdoors or i use large lighting units so i have never had a complaint.
would you recommend the gl2 for someone who wants to become a wedding videographer (friend)? on the gl2's cons i see there is the low light (smaller chips) issue one encounters in a typical wedding. i realize the vx2000 is better in low light but i just can't recommend it to my friend becasue of its poor audio (manual-hiss). i think the pd-150 is getting out of his price range. what camera would you all recommend? mb |
The GL2 is a fine wedding cam, but I suggest getting an onboard light.

The GL2 works just fine for weddings. I even bought a second to replace our GL1. An on-board light with diffuser is a necessity. Every facility we've covered practically turns the lights out after dinner.

what on-board light brand & diffuser would you recommend?

I've been using the PAGLight C6. It's lightweight, runs cool, has barn doors, rotatable filters and cost under $300. Battery lasts well over an hour of continuous use but you need two. Overall, I'm very pleased with its perfomance.

The PagLight - yes? What type of batteries? I've seen it advertised here in the UK where it is used with NiCad, not LithIon. Is that the same in the US?

VL-10Li
I do not use my GL2 professionally, but I have volunteered to tape my sisters wedding. I was thinking about purchasing the VL-10Li to use during the reception, but I am not sure if 10watts is enough power. Has anyone used this light for weddings? I dont think I justify spending more than $100 on a light given my use. But if a $100 light isnt going to work, I quess I can just rent a more professional light.
Thanks. |
I use that canon light and I think it is enough for most shots at the reception. Certainly if your trying to catch the action in front of you. If you try to shoot the whole room it wouldn't be, but for the last 20 weddings I've done it's been enough. It could use a diffuser but it is not bad.

I have the VL3, and this small 3 watts only can save your life !
Look these 2 pics shot in same conditions: frame mode, shutter 1/25, F1.6, 0dB gain. Without VL3: http://marc5532b.free.fr/file/without_vl3.jpg With VL3: http://marc5532b.free.fr/file/with_vl3.jpg So I imagine that the VL10 can do better. |
The PAGLight C6 battery is a 6V 7Ah Ni-Cd battery. It comes with a shoulder strap since it weighs a few pounds. Only problem I've had is with the strap attachment that tends to fall off the battery. Using gaffer tape over the clip solves problem. Hope that helps.
