Light is your biggest enemy. The more light the better options
you'll have. If you want to do a fast sports game use high shutter speeds over 1/60. Thinking about 1/100 or higher. This will eat light for breakfast so you might need to open your lens up which may get you into focussing troubles when zooming in. But if you use the camera in shutter priority mode the camera will keep your shutter setting and adjust everything else automatically to get a decent picture. Frame mode will loose you some resolution and will soften the image a bit more. If you want absolute clarity and will be wacthing on a TV I would suggest to shoot interlaced first. Then if you have the time later again do some tests with frame mode. Or perhaps you can switch for 5 unimportent minutes during this project (do remember where you shot the frame mode [so you can easily find it back later] and don't forget to set it back to interlaced after the test) and you can see what effect it has when playing back on a TV or on your computer. Good luck. |
Btw...the "Shoot for the Cut" GL2 DVD has now dropped in price from $79 to $49...a little more realistic.

It's Best to Borrow This One
If you can do so.
It presents a few good principles in the section on shooting style but the GL2-specific section is not very informative. Overall, as a body of work, it's a bit weak. I don't think you'll feel very fulfilled after viewing it. |
Thanks Chris, pity you don't get a demo - will take Ken's advice & not bother.
Back to my hands on practice and watching this forum. |
I can second that review of "Shoot for the Cut." Overall, the GL2 section is disappointing.

Rob, thanks yet again. I experimented again and found shutter priority and interlace to give me best result. At 250, results are decent. With better lighting this weekend, I will experiment a bit at Tv 500 & in manual.
