simple color bars Q
 

despite the fact that i've consulted the manual, i can't figure out how to put color bars onto a tape. i just want to put one minute's worth, (with a tone, if possible) at the beginning. would somebody please explain how to do this?

It's on page 67 of the manual. Press the D.EFFECTS/BARS SELECT button, select COLOR BARS from the menu which appears, press the dial in, and press the D. EFFECTS/ BARS ON/OFF button.

Cameras won't generate tone. This would have to come from something like an external mixer like the SQN. Your recordist will generate 1000KHz of tone for you while you're putting on the colour bars.
