GL-2 on Canon's Webpage

Looks pretty good. Even has manual audio control, MA-300 XLR adapter, souped up accessory mic, multiple zebra levels, image controls, clear scan, SMPTE Color Bars(!). Really sounds like a XL-1S shrunken into a GL-1 case.

I think one of the neatest things is the MA-300. If the price is right that will be one interesting puppy.

don't forget the xl1's lens! its huge! I'm sure it catches far more light than any of the smaller cams, and the lens is what makes a camera after all

The lens is only one of the important pieces. You'd be amazed
at what the GL1 (and probably the GL2) can do with its miniature
lens! Ultimately it is about the story and the way you portray
it that counts, not your lens size. But, ofcourse, it can help you
in getting that richer picture.

Big question will be the street price...

After reading lots of comments about the GL2 one of the best observations concerns its price. The author there questions the wisdom of having a camera sell around $3,000.

The question is what will the street price be? It is almost a PD150 already (heck, I know some of the things the PD150 has that the GL2 does not) but it is cheaper than the PD150.

If the GL2 street price approaches that of the VX2000, I expect there will be quite a battle between these two machines. My guess is that sales of anamorphic to continue to climb.

Finally, why the heck did Canon put a digital still cam in the GL2??

B&H photo has the camera listed at $2799, and there is a thread over at 2-pop.com that indicates that is the "M.A.P." price. My quess is it will hover around that price for a few months and then drop to the $2500 range in the fall.
