GL-1 Hot Pixel Fix, how much?
I've been looking around for any information about hot pixels. After 5 years my GL-1 has developed a single hot pixel that is viewable in the top right hand corner, just on the edge of the visible screen.
Two questions: 1. Has anybody had pixel work done by Canon and what do you think it would cost? Of course they will not give me any kind of figure over the phone. More than $500? 2. I've heard of companies that can remap the pixels on CCDs. Does anybody know of a company that can do that for a GL-1? I really don't want to have to buy a new camera, but I'm not going to put a lot of money into an older camera either. Thanks, David |
Try editing out the hot pixel. Her eis software that may possibly help but not fix the problem

Id like to know too.

I typically hear figures in the $500 to $1000 dollar range, depending on the number of CCD's, age of camera etc.

That price range is what I thought. So now do I spend half the value of a 5 year old camera to fix it, or spend more for a new camera? My wife will love this conversation. Does anybody know of any PC software like the one listed earlier? How about a third party company that can do pixel remapping?
Thanks for all the feedback. David |
i think last night i discovered not one but FOUR HOT PIXELS on my GL1. ughhh!
but i'm not sure what the ultimate way to test for it is. i had the camera pointed at a totally dark room, and i was monitoring via SVIDEO cable to my big panasonic TV. there were four "stars" on the screen that never moved, even when i moved the camera angle around. it was an awful sinking feeling.... and if it's really upwards of $500 or so to fix it, i probably wouldn't do it. anyway, i feel your pain. (i hope i'm wrong and i was just "testing" it the wrong way, but i doubt it.) martino |
Here are photos of my footage of my gl1 with what i think are hot or dead pixels. i have one and its located on the lower left hand corner of my shot. When looking at the photos look at the man in black and the trashcan in the second shot. But this thing doesnt always come out in my footage. I went to the beach this weekend and didnt see the spec at all. Ive also included shots of the beach. http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/syphic/my_photos

Your pictures didn't come up. I'll try to post a picture of my pixel tomorrow. What I have found is that I can't see the pixel unless I'm shooting in a dark space with the gain up. No gain and plenty of light, the hot pixel doesn't come up.

Ok i fixed my photo album and now you can see the pictures of the hot pixel.

I see it now. I'll try to post a few pics of my hotpixel in a couple of days. Right now I'm in the process of buying a new camera, so I think I'm going to use my GL as a back-up.
