Did I kill my GL2?
 

I was not aware that my 6 year old had spilled diet pop on my battery charger, Canon Compact Power Adapter CA-920,
When I pluged my GL2 into it the camera made a strange noise and stopped working, it will not even work with a battery. I notice that the charger has a burn electric wire smell to it.
I can replace the charger cheap, but my question is how much damage may have been done to my GL2. Anyone else ever experience something like this?

It sure sounds like you've at least blown some internal micro-fuse in the GL2. Hopefully, it's not worse than that although the fact that you heard a "strange sound" does not bode well.

This is not something you'll be able to repair for yourself. Contact Canon Service.

Removing tape?
 

Is there anyway to remove the DV tape from my dead GL2 before sending it in for repair?
I don't want them to lose my vacation tape that's in camera.

None that I know of. Better to let them extricate the tape. Just make sure they know it's in there.

Just a chance. Remove the internal watch battery from the Gl2 and let stand for 2 hours and replace battery with new one. Put battery in and turn on. Im wondering if you tripped some circuit and by removing the battery, you reset the breaker...if there is one. Give it a try, you have nothing else to loose.

Killed but fixable
 

It turns out that the charger burned up and sent a sergwe to the camera(GL2). It burned out one of the boards inside. I have to pay $285.00 to fix the cam and $59.00 for a new charger. In light of the fact that the charger killed my camera should I ask Canon to cover my costs of repair and replacement of charger, the warranty had expired by 4 months.

Warranties only cover manufacture's defects in materials and workmanship. Acts of God and 6 year olds are not covered.
