Just wanted to thank everybody

Just wanted to thank everybody here for helping get my GL2 accessories sorted out. I have 3 weddings over the next 6 weeks to shoot and I think I finally have everything I need.

Here are a few pics of my setup

Hey Jeff, how's that 501 head? :) I want to order one especialy for a XM2 (GL2) like yours!

Jeff Toogood July 8th, 2004 07:27 AM

I have only had it one night and so far it is a HUGE improvement over the cheap Sony tripod I was using.

To me, it pans and tilts really smooth, but I have never used a more expensive tripod to compare it to.

the heavy duty legs might help as well, the 3046 are really nice legs for the price. (heavy though)

Cosmin Rotaru July 8th, 2004 07:41 AM

thank!
Let me know when you try zooming 20x how well you can pan/tilt.
I already decided on buying this but I'll have it in a month or two and I'm just anxious about it! :)

In that pic, what exactly did you get? Coz I need it for a wedding on July 24th! The tripod, the mic...and does that also have the wireless mics?

I'm just getting into wedding videos.....well....just getting into videos, actually! This will be my second wedding! :)

Jeff Toogood July 8th, 2004 08:43 AM

Here is everything I have bought in the last month (had to sell off some other accesories I had to afford this stuff)

- 3 BP945 equilvalent batteries
- Filter set with UV/Polarizer/Softener
- Canon WC58H Wide Angle Lens
- Sennheiser Evolution 112P Wireless Setup
- Canon MA-300 Microphone Adapter
- Azden SGM-1X Shotgun Microphone
- Bogen/Manfrotto 3046 legs with 501 Video Head

How is the sound from the Azden SGM-1X Shotgun Microphone?

Bob Harotunian July 9th, 2004 11:12 AM

Jeff,
Just wondering where your light will mount. Around here, they practically shut the lights off after wedding reception dinners.
Bob

Jeff Toogood July 9th, 2004 11:32 AM

I am planning on moving the Wirless receiver off of the MA-300 and then mounting my light on the accessory shoe on top of the MA-300.
I am planning on using my Sony 10W/20W switchable light.
If it is REALLY dark I have some redheads I could setup or a 100W AC powered camera light to blow people's heads off with!!!!

Bob Harotunian July 9th, 2004 12:03 PM

Jeff,
Be careful...100W in a darkened room will be like the sun in people's eyes. I use a Frezzi micro-fill with soft box that is dimmable from 35W. With the GL2, around 20W works well for me without being to intrusive.
Bob

Jeff Toogood July 9th, 2004 12:26 PM

Yes, I don't really plan on that attack. I am hoping the Sony at 20W will give me good light.

"How is the sound from the Azden SGM-1X Shotgun Microphone?" My question too.

Jeff Toogood July 13th, 2004 08:57 PM

I am actually not that impressed with it. The onboard microphone seems much lounder and better sounding.
It's not terrible, just not the improvement I was expecting.

I recently got a great deal on a Sennheiser ME66/K6 and I am waiting for that to arrive and make a direct comparison.

I will let you guys know what I find.

Steven Davis July 14th, 2004 06:02 AM

Well I'm actually pricing a setup very similar to yours,

the differences would be a beachtek adapter, AT 835b and a samson airline series wireless. The wireless and the beachtek is going to put me 400 bucks over budget, but 'ya can't make money w/o spending a couple of dollars.' I actually posted a thread in the 'now hear this' section asking if anyone had used a shotgun and a wireless setup like your's. No one responded to that one, but I'm glad to have found your thread.

Jeff Toogood July 14th, 2004 06:44 AM

The setup works pretty good, wireless in one channel and the shotgun in the other channel.

For the weddings I have coming up, I think I am actually going to run two wireless setups into my camera and use the shotgun on B-roll camera.
