Barrel Distortion

I just got my GL2 and my .55x Century Optics WA Adapter. Love them both. Though I did not expect as much barrel distortion from the adapter. Its not a problem but I was just wondering if barrel distortion can be found on some of the other popular models for the GL2(1) and how pronounced it is. The Canon WD-something comes to mind along with the the Century .65x. Just curious.

Barrel distortion is one of the eight optical defects. I got a post here about optical defects http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2847&highlight=lens+defect It is common on wide angle adapters. The wider the angle of coverage the greater the chance of distortion. It is less pronounced on the .65x and the Canon adapter shows very little. The effect is less pronounced if you zoom a little, too.

The Raynox 6600 (.66x) is reputed to have the least barrel distortion of all of them. -Has front threads, too.
