First time settings, Practice time-GL2

Hello all,

This week I am going to bust out my GL2 and take it on it's practice run for some upcoming projects.

What I am looking for from this thread is your opinions from your experiences so that I can jump in and take full advantage from my GL2.

Here are the conditions= outdoors, bright day. I will be using manual mode.

How have you achieved that shallow depth of field, say tracking someone in a crowd and the extras in the foreground and background are unfocussed, what ballpark setting would you recommend.

Focus at infinity, what settings do you use for total focus, do you adjust settings then zoom or opposite or a little of both.

Thanks for all the feedback beforehand.

Going from mostly Beta to mini dv, I am looking forward to weight drop in equipment, lol

cya, Ted

The shallow DOF effect is not easily obtained with camcorder lenses. Use as large an aperture as you can (the ND filter can help dim the scene so you can open the aperture more), as much zoom as you can, and try to frame the shot for as much actual distance between the subject and the background as you can get.
