Lets hope Canon foresee this problem before the next upgrade comes out in what I still believe to be a great camera and workhorse for me!...

John, I agree, and after seeing Cosmin's closeups of the sweeper brushes and general appraoch to that electro-mechanical "pressure-on" device it was a total eyeopnner that somehow, IMHO, that this would sustain use over a period of time. Plus the cabling thru the door. Hell, my Dad's 20 year old Analogue Panasonic Camcorder's ZOOM rocker is STILL providing sterling service!!

There have been many MANY designs for this type of variable reostat (if that is the correct term) over the years.

Grazie

Zoom Rocker failure

Hi Gents: I recently bought a used GL2 in good condition. I have not had the opportunity to shoot more than 2 hrs. of tape & the zoom started to act up.

I am going to Israel for my company in a couple of weeks. I just called conon
in N.J. & ordered a new rocker pot & flat wire harness for $13.95.

I have repaired all kinds of video, AV & recording equipment over the years so am not afraid to perform the repair myself.

I will try & post pictures & instructions for the repair when I replace it.
