Shooting while whitewater rafting

I was wondering if anyone has used the GL2 while whitewater rafting.

I am going on a 4 day trip this summer in Colorado and want to shoot video of my group in action. I was wondering if there were any pointers people had for this type of environment (e.g. water protection, shooting techniques, remaining in the raft!!) I would really like to test the GL2 out in these conditions but more importantly, keep it safe (the hell with me, just don't hurt the equipment)

any insight would be really appreciated,

Vito

Vito- take a look at this thread- this way you can protect your GL2 and still get some awesome footage...

awesome footage?

I guess the lipstick cam is really going to give you a poor little image from the little lens that is on those small things. right? anyone have experience with them that they can share? is the quality worth the bother?

Lipstick cams can be limiting but in white water I don't know a practical alternative. I have gotten some good whitewater footage from shore with my PD150 but use a helmetcam when I am in a boat.

These days you can get helmet cams with up to 480 line of resolution. Here is a whitewater clip with a 380 line helmet cam.

Here is a clip shot from shore of a very different kayaker.

Awesome Videos!

Rick - Fab vids! What was that music? Superb . . ..

Glad you like the clips. I threw together the music using Sonic Acid.

Would that be Sonic Foundry's Sonic - I've got the lite version Sonic Express. Are all the loops part of the library? Did you add any of your own muso work?

Rick Spilman April 1st, 2003 08:29 AM

It was Sonic Foundry's Acid Pro. All the clips are theirs. None of my own.

Well done you!

Now I've got to play with something else as well!
