Sci-fi short shot with HV20
 

Howdy,

I have my first narrative movie shot with my HV20!
We did it for the 48 Hour Film Festival here in Greensboro, NC.

24p - yes, I added the pulldown step to my 48 hour workload. Smart? Sure, why not. We made it in on time.

It's about a 70mb download. The movie is 5 minutes (but the last minute is credits). The first ten seconds or so gives the genre (Sci-fi) and elements we had to use, then the movie starts for real after that.

I thought you did a tremendous job with this Jason. Beautifully shot, well written, wonderful editing, great acting -- the female lead is gorgeous -- I could easily see this being a prize winner somewhere.

And I have to say, it has convinced me to go out and buy an HV20 immediately. To my eye -- although I would have liked a LITTLE more saturation -- this didn't even LOOK like video.

Also, proof that you don't need to use a 35mm adapter to make a film quality movie.

P.S. I'd be curious for some behind the scenes info. Shooting methods, sound, lighting, etc.

I'll be sure to pass the kudos along to my teammates. Lindy (the female lead) looks fabulous on camera. She looks good in person, but amazing on screen...

We won no awards, mostly due to a sub-par render I did at the last second (48 hours goes by quick), but also I think because it was a little too odd for the judges.

I didn't get a chance to color correct, but we are working on a slight re-edit and color correction to submit to some festivals. Trouble is, I have a paid video gig I'm working on right now. Awful trouble, being paid...

I've had a handful of requests for info on equipment and techniques - I hope to get something together once this paid job is done - next week sometime. Feel free to remind me...

Hey Jason, I've done two 48 Hours using the HV20 this year, plus a Letus adapter. I note you said you went 24p. Did you actually do pulldown ? I noted in the rules that they did not want 24p. I shot mine in 24p, using Cinemode, and never did any pull down, and rendered it in standard NTSC for them.

In both cases ran out of time to color correct, same as you.

I did do pulldown (probably why I ran out of time). To heck with what they want, I want my movie to look good.
I won last year in my city, and had a fairly poor experience as a winner. I don't know how ready the head office is for the sheer number of people involved. They seem to be about 16 months behind the times as far as what people are shooting with and how people shoot.
Still fun though!
