capture HDV using SD camera?

Hey all,

I shot my last film using a Canon XL2. I then sold my camera and then forgot that I needed to shots for my film. I shot them using my father's Canon HV30. But I forgot to set the HV30 to SD and I kept it on HD. I then took the miniDV tape and sent it to my editor who said she could easily capture the footage. Well, the footage shot on the HV30 isn't showing up when she is trying to capture it. She's using a regular SD miniDV camcorder though. Now I thought that it didn't matter if it was HDV or not, and that if a camera recorded onto a miniDV tape then it can be captured via firewire. Am I wrong? It's just very weird that the footage isn't showing up. I viewed the footage right after I shot it so I know it's on the tape.

Is it possible to capture the HV30's HD 1080p 24p via firewire using Final Cut Pro 6?

Only if you're using an HV30 or other capable Canon camcorder. Any Canon 24(F or P) has to be played back on a Canon with the 24(f or p) function.

AHAH!! damn, i didn't know that. Well that would explain it then. I'll have to get the HV30 to my editor to capture from then.

Okay, thanks for such a quick reply!
