Canon HF100 wildlife settings

I am going to shoot in the outdoors this weekend and would like to know what settings you guys would recommend i try. From the info i have been reading it seems that cine mode at 24p would be best. are there any other setting i should try? This will be mainly wildlife video on my Canon HF100.

Thanks

Vince

I'm probably a tad late for you on this one as the weekend is already here. Here is a link to a 3 minute short done for a video challenge. There's a spot in town here where a small herd of deer show up most evenings.

I used an HF100 at XP+ (I had to use this setting for awhile as my quad core PC was still a bit slow for editing 1920x1080 at 17Mbps). I think it would have turned out just as good had I used the default 60i rather than the 30p setting.

If you do use 30p be aware that you will be experiencing a "lag" in both audio and video. As you start a pan to follow "critter movement" the LCD image takes a bit to start showing the pan movement. Also if monitoring audio with headphones this "lag" may drive you nuts unless your headphones completely seal out external sounds. This does not happen at 60i.

I really like the HF100 (in case the above sounds like a complaint), it just helps to be aware of any "quirks" in advance. I've used the 30p setting on 3 projects and have not had that cause any problems for me.

I do use Cine mode almost exclusively but am personally skeptical of the 24p setting unless you are prepared to deal with "pulldown" issues and are planning on having footage transferred to film. The Cine mode with custom settings boosting brightness, contrast and sharpness still retains the muted color and dynamic range with a bit of "sparkle" to it; also has a bit of filmlike rendition. But (and this is my opinion) I consider 24fps to be an archaic holdover from film and no longer necessary.

Thanks for the response. I ended up shooting cine mode 30p and it looks real good so far. I was out on a deer hunt and thought i would try and get some wildlife footage. Once i do some editing i will post on vimeo and put a link up.
