Sounds as if you have a ground loop --- a difference in voltage between the ground of the board and the ground of the camera. Hum eliminators isolate the grounds and fix this, here is a link to one such: Buy Ebtech HE-2-XLR Hum Eliminator with XLR | Noise Gate & Suppressor | Musician's Friend

Also, iirc, that model Beechtec has mike/line level switches, you probably need line. A peculiarty of the hv20/30 --- if you plug your headphones into the av/headphone socket and it is not set in the menu as headphone, you will hear a really annoying hum and no audio. Just a thought. /Battle Vaughan/miamiherald.com video team

You may also be hearing the hum from the HV's amplifier. As best you can, turn that down to get as clean a signal as possible.

I used a BeachTek for a while on my HV, but the noisy amp caused me to get a JuicedLink. I've since moved to dual recording, but I found the JuicedLink was a great product. Ate 9V batteries nearly every 90 minutes with one phantom feed...but that's a small price to pay for audio that sounds good!
