Which G10 Lens Controller

I am leaning toward a VariZoom but the Canon ZR-2000 has more controls for the camera. Typically my use is sports but later I want to mount the camera on a jib or crane from time to time. Is it a case of needing both controllers based on specific use?

Hi Chip, there's no need for two controllers... you can't go wrong with either one, just get whatever model that has the feature sets you want.

why wouldn't you use the remote instead? sorry I KNOW it's a stupid question

We will have 2 G10's so, incredibly, I have the luxury of two controllers. I think I will get the VariZoom for tripod operation. After I learn more about the G10, the kit for mounting it on a crane can get worked out. It is a best practice for us to use the same equipment on both tripod mounted cameras anyway.

Thanks!
Chip

I use a fiber connected Canon remote to run my HV40. It doesn't have the level of control that I want for ice skating and tends to pop on at the beginning of a zoom. The G10 has more settings for gradual zooms as well. The little Canon remote is a bit awkward to mount on the tripod too

As an editor, I appreciate the lens controller that my "pro" camera guy uses. I can stay with his shots much longer because they look more controlled and elegant. I have to ask him what controller he has but I know it isn't a regular remote control.

Because it's wireless infrared. For reliability and the "use it without thinking about it" factor, you need a hard-wired LANC controller that clamps to your tripod pan handle.
