Looks like there might be hope on the horizon. Another HV20 owner posted some pics indicating that the camera does have the ability to fully mirror the screen when it's in a certain position against the camera. Hopefully this means there's another switch in there somewhere that can be tripped to get a fully mirrored image.

Tom, you are my hero! :)

I will keep it secret and keep it safe as well!

*Edit: Doesn't work with the HV10. :(

Manual control on the Optura Pi (and probably works similarly on a number of Canon camcorders).

Set Shutter to 1/60th.

For low-light situations:
- Set mode to Auto.
- Put your hand over the lens and push the EXP button.
- You are now wide open at +18 db gain.
- Roll the control wheel to take you from +18db (0) to +1.5db (-11) in 1.5 db steps.

Tried it.
This trick does not work for the HV10. You cannot adjust the Exposure in Auto mode. Can't change shutter speed either.

For instance a well-lit theater might be -8 (1/60, f1.6 +6db gain).

For not so low-light situations:
- Set mode to Spotlight (disables gain up).
- Put your hand over the lens and push the EXP button.
- You are now wide open at +0db gain.
- Roll the control wheel to go from f1.6 (0) to - whatever in 1/4 f clicks.

Remember, this is secret!

-Tom-
Disables Auto Gain, but no control over shutter, and it's really really dark. Cannot add "+" to the exposure, can only subtract "-". Great way to stop auto gain, but I wish I could change the shutter speed at least. :(

Playing around some more, it seems that the Secret Loophole that was with the Optura Pi has been closed with the HV10.

Still best to do TV mode, 1/30th, and decrease Exposure a lot.

There are two switches to do the complete flip with a 35mm adapter. I have had the plate off, and actually activated both switches simulataneously.

There is another posting here, and at HV20 forum by a guy who had a Canon tech mount two switches on top of the camera behind the hot shoe, to have manual switching access. I put mine back together because it all looks very delicate...
