B&H Taking Orders!

I placed my order for one today, just thought I would let you all know they are taking orders. Can't wait to get it.

Has anyone here from Canada ever ordered from them? Am I going to get hit with huge customs/duty fees? Just curious to see if this is the way to go...

Thanks,

Mike

I got almost all my gears from B&H. I never have to pay any duty. Just be aware that if you ship the gears from the US with anything cheaper than "UPS Expedited", the custom may charge you $50 for brokerage fee.

Matt Buys February 19th, 2007 02:44 PM

It's too portable to pass up. I think I'll try and talk my wife into getting this later tonight. Did you get the mack warranty with it?

I was thinking of going with Fedex... 1 to 2 days. That should be good right?

BTW, is the MACK warranty worth it for those purchasing out of country? (Canada)

Thanks again guys! I'm definitely getting this little beauty.

I didn't bother today, but will before it ships.

Mike

Mike Horrigan February 19th, 2007 05:59 PM

I ordered mine too!

Can't wait to get it...

I also ordered the DM-50 microphone as well.

My first camera.... :)

Are you referring to the Mack warranty, or talking your wife into it? (grin)

Matt Buys February 19th, 2007 07:59 PM

I was referring to Mack warranty. But here's another question. I'm doing a doc in Belgium of some breweries in Belgium in May. Trick is I'll be on a bike. Need something light and portable. But I don't want to get into the HD DVD burner and player and TV just yet. Poor lightning conditions aside, any guesses on whether that 1/2.7 chip will still look good in SD as compared to my beater sony vx1000?

After I ordered my HV20, I did a quick on-line check just for kicks and found no one else even offering the camera yet. B&H is not offering any PAL units at this time.

Mike

Actually, another on-line site was offering it before B&H. I don't think I can mention them on this site.

They don't ship certain electronic devices to Canada though.

Mike T., have they given you an expected delivery date? I thought the HV20 wasn't available until April. But it would be great if it's shipping sooner.

No date of any kind. I expect a run on these and wanted to get one right away so I ordered.

Hi Yow Siang,

I see you write from Singapore.
Why are you interested to buy a PAL version of HV20 that should available at the shops there?
If I'm not going wrong in Singapore there should be 50 Hz frequency network,
so should be sold the PAL version.
Same should be also in Hong Kong.
Isn't not so ?

P.se inform me because it's also my intention to buy the HV20 PAL version there and I wish to pay it at the equivalent Japan and USA market price of NTSC version.
In Europe the PAL version will cost about 1300 Euro, while in US the NTSC version will cost 1100 USD, about 800 Euro.

BR
Enrico

Yow Siang February 21st, 2007 07:33 AM

yes indeed it would be sold here but sometimes it is rather slow for newer models to arrive as BHphoto has the latest fastest...:)

Enrico Sasso February 21st, 2007 07:46 AM

In Tokyo (Yodobashi ) the HV20 NTSC will cost about 130.000 Yen.
What about the prices at Singapore shops ?

If still the HV20 isn't yet priced there, p.se let me know the actual price of HV10.

Thanks

C.S. Michael February 27th, 2007 03:28 PM

I was told by a local camera store today that the HV20 is shipping NOW. Can anyone confirm? B&H is not showing them in stock, and I thought we had a few more weeks to go.

Should look much sharper in SD than the VX-1000. I always liked the VX-1000's color renditions and I'm not sure it will be as good in that respect.

Best wishes,
Peter

I was in B&H this morning and asked when the HV20 would be in stock. The guy said it was supposed to be the end of March, but that they were expecting them earlier than that.

That would be awesome!
I've been looking into it locally and nobody seems to know for sure. Word is that it will be available before April though.

Can't wait!

I spoke with my local Canon camera guy again today. He says that according to computer inventory, the HV20 is now in stock at their U.S. distributor. But he needs to speak with someone to confirm. If this pans out, he says I should have one next week!

I work about a 20 minute walk to B&H...so if they have it in stock that quickly...I will have a heck of a nice birthday next week!

C.S. Michael March 1st, 2007 10:08 PM

Update: no launch next week....late March shipment of HV20, MAYBE a little early.

But a price of $925 was confirmed.

Jaser Stockert March 2nd, 2007 07:57 AM

$925? where at? i'm in!

C.S. Michael March 2nd, 2007 10:04 AM

Jaser, I will email you details. I was pleasantly surprised to see the price come in below the HV10.

Steve Montoto March 2nd, 2007 12:28 PM

What happens if you already pre-ordered for $1099 ? do they give you a credit back?

Jim Martin March 2nd, 2007 04:04 PM

The camera is out April 1st...not now. As for the price, someone showing an extreamly low price in comparison to B&H or ourselves, is and always has been a big red flag. The price is probably from "Crooklyn" and grey market AND they most likely won't have them for a while. This type of stuff has been pointed out many times on this board.

Jim Martin

C.S. Michael March 2nd, 2007 05:51 PM

That price is from my local dealer (a totally legit brick-and-mortar establishment), not from one of the Crooklyn outfits. I was very surprised that they came in lower than B&H. They are requiring a 25% deposit to secure the price.

Who knows...maybe the HV20 "street price" will actually be lower than $1099. This certainly appears to be the case.

Steve Montoto March 2nd, 2007 06:42 PM

I guess thats why I was curious, if the price infact does drop before delivery, since they already charged my card. Just wondering.

do they ship to the uk?!!

C.S. Michael March 3rd, 2007 01:17 AM

I'd be happy to list their contact info here, but don't know the policies of this board regarding such posts. I have no connection with the seller whatsoever (other than as a customer). They've offered a very competitive price on the XHA1, so no reason to disbelieve this price on the HV20.

If it's okay to share the contact info in this thread, I will do so. Otherwise you can drop me an email and I'll fill you in.

A merchant who charges your credit card a month before he can ship is enhancing his cash flow at your expense. I would not put up with that.

What I'm doing by paying in advance and getting in line, is "enhancing" my chance of getting this camera as soon as posible.

I fully believe that after the success of the HV10, the HV20 with more features and an even lower price will sell really well. Maybe they would be sold out of the initial order, and I want one of these now.

I have a shoot this morning that I would love to have this camera for. Instead, I have to shoot a a unpleasent scene twice and try not to have continuity errors to boot.

I think that this prepay will be a good investment.

I thought it was UPS that charges the brokerage fee. What I hear from other Canadians with a lot of UPS experience is to avoid them for overseas orders whenever possible.

Well it was B&H that pre-charged my card, I thought it was alittle weird but they are one of the forum recommended vendors. I also wanted to get one as soon as possible too so I did what I had to do.

That's SOP for B&H. It's stated on their web site.
