Help uploading and compressing clips
 

Hi all:

Dazzled by the quality of the uploaded clips, I would like to ask if any of you could help discussing your workflow to upload clips with the correct compression and size for net viewing in this forum.

I work from a Mac G5 and I have a bunch of clips edited on FC Express, some a 1min or 2 min which I would like to share with you taken with the HV-10 and HV-20 but everytime I use export from FC Express as a QT conversion I come up to the dialogue for QT and H264 compression, and this is where I really get lost with the right settings to produce I small file for Net uploading that will have the appropiate quality to convey the quality and resolution of some of the clips I've seen in this forum. May be I'm missing something.

Viewing is done on Apple Cinema 23, QTpro, FC Express, MPEGStreamclip,
VLC. Exporting from the FC Express timeline and doing the QT movie conversion work well but the quality is terrible when viewed on the same screen without uploading of course.

Believe I tried some many settings in the conversion dialogue, that I think I am missing the boat somewhere. My aim is the largest image for viewing with the best resolution and the smallest file possible.

I you can contribute with your approach and workflow, your help will be appreciated.

That's a tall order indeed! To achieve this, H.264 for video and AAC for audio is the way to go.

As for you settings, try these.

Those settings will give you full res HD, but if you require something smaller just change Image Size and Date Rate settings.

Another option, and one that I've been using, is the Export "Movie to Apple TV" setting in QuickTime. You'll need the latest version in order to see this.

If you only you all uploaded your clips to Stage 6 life would be so much easier downloading the clips everyone posts up!

Yes, it's DivX, but you can upload clips up to 2gb in size for free! They can be 720P or even 1080P.. Providing you can encode them, and of course they provide the tools to do that for free aswell including Dr DivX which is available for both Mac & PC. The encoding is fast too. A much better option than all these file sharing sites that make you wait 2 minutes, and then give an extremely slow download speed.
