16 minute clips
I recorded about 2 hours of video at third highest video quality setting. I recorded on a 32GB SDHC card @ 20MB/s. When I view the video it breaks it up into 16:22 clips. Why did it do this? And can It just record a straight 2 hours without the clips?
Jamie It's a Canon vixia hf41 Thanks |

Re: 16 minute clips
Right, it's the file size.

Re: 16 minute clips
As I understand it, the split (at ~2 GB) is in part due to the file size limitations of the file system used on the SD cards and in part legacy from the old Microsoft type 1 AVI file limitation days. FAT 32 commonly used on memory cards actually has a 4 GB file size limit, but Type 1 AVI files were limited to 2 GB. Most makers of AVCHD gear still stick to the 2 GB file size limitation - perhaps to reduce the incidence of issues with other connections to other gear; e.g., people trying to copy a large file to a smaller storage device.
The old command line function: COPY with the /B option can be used to assemble the piececs into one big file with no "missing" frames on a NTFS drive if you do not have the necessary utility on hand. |
