can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
Hi there,
I'd like to try to use my Hoodman Loupe (from my EX-1) on my new XF100, but with the weight of the Loupe the viewfinder flops down. Can I tighten the viewfinder so it won't do this? thanks, Malcolm |
Re: can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
I use my own system as it requires less weight than the flap. However, I don't have trouble with the flap attached to the LCD but rather the small issue is moving the 4" rubber adapter to the proper placement area.
Here is what I made. Instead of purchasing the 20 dollar rubberband loupe holder I simply located a small rubberband that fits under the eyecup. I then tied another rubberband to the 9AM and 3PM position. The centerband goes over the eyecup..... I now place the two side bands over the LCD. Less weight and able to move the 4" adapter to the proper location. I did refine the above. In lieu of rubberbands, I used three small hairbands-type use for pigtails. It worked and looked better. I hope this makes sense. |
Re: can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
Thanks for the note, Lou.
Would it be hard for you to post a jpeg? I'm having some trouble picturing your device, but I'll read your description again tomorrow when I'm more clear-headed. Another question: can you put it on and take it off easily? Because every time you put the camera away in its case, the device you've made has to come off (unless you've also altered your camera bag, with a side-extension!). Regardless, I applaud you for coming up with something that works. Cheers, Malcolm |

I used the rubber ring that came with the loupe and attached two small hairbands. This is my second try to upload. See attachments. Notice the I-Cuff. A worthwhile investment.

Thanks very much for those pics, Lou. But tell me, please—is that a Canon XF100 your loupe is attached to?
I'm thinking that maybe the XF100 has a particularly weak lcd hinge... I'll try something along the lines of what you're proposing anyway, in hopes the hinge will hold it up. Regards, Malcolm |
Re: can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
Hi Malcom,
I have the same concern. I have a Hoodman Loupe for the EX1. The weight of it flops the LCD down, and the hinge on the LCD does seem to wiggle a bit if you force it. I haven't come up with a solution at this point. It would be nice to find a way to make it work without stressing the LCD hinge, the screen turns into a really high-quality EVF with the Hoodman. I think the loupe bands will work for you. Less stress on my XF-300-pictured.

I am about to get an xf 100 soon, and I would like to do something similar to the viewfinder. Thanks! |

Go to my JPEGS: Lower right corner. You can see the set-up with the loupe.

Hi Sam and Lou,
Here are a few snaps of my XF100 and the Hoodman Loupe: 1. just the Loupe 2. the XF100 lcd 3. what happens when you attach the Loupe to the lcd Sam, this is why we're going to have to try Lou's suggestion. Regards, Malcolm |

That makes sense. The extra weight and the smaller LCD-a poor combo. My loupe method should work well. Hopefully :-)

Re: can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
Lou, that looks sweet.
How does it help as far as handholding? Can you almost shoulder-mount the rig? Doesn't the eye cup also magnify the image from the 4" monitor? |
Re: can I tighten viewfinder so it holds Hoodman Loupe?
YEP.....Sure can place the camera on the shoulder (partially) and the LOUPE really magnifies well. However, I purchased an IKAN shoulder mount for 89 dollars and the camera sits better on the shoulder. The LCD becomes an EVF and fits right up to my eye. Of course, I can always go back to the handheld position any time.
