Re: Beginner badly needs help: Setting up XF100 for low light

OK, I had never used 24p and was unaware of its amazing low light potential. It looks like more than a stop of difference to me now that I've done some testing. This may let me use my "regular" settings file in more low light situations.

In other experimenting this morning, sadly, I do not find that my XF100 shows the 720 vs. 1080 exposure advantage as seen in the video above for the XF300. :-(

The other video above showing various settings files covers many of the CP files from the vimeo group. And, the link at the end of the video to download that J.Cine12 CP file he likes? - it also includes ALL the vimeo group files (including HiGain) and some BBC settings! So, you need to grab that.

A couple of notes - when I listed the HiGain settings, I forgot I had customized it by intensifying the color matrix - I had it at 20, the original is 14.

And, comparing the HiGain to the J.Cine12 (that the video creator seems to prefer) the J.Cine doesn't do as much softening and the image is flatter - color and black are at 0 and Knee slope is 12 and Knee point is 70. Those Knee settings I think are to control highlights more.

This customization is just one of the many things I love about my XF100. I use a personal settings file that most folks here would probably find too punchy and "consumer-cam-ish" but I'm 85 percent happy with it and still tweaking. It has Cine1 gamma, crushed blacks, saturated color, high sharpness (but with higher coring detail to control artifacts - learned that trick on this board from Pavel), and a Normal color matrix. I use it for everything until I get in light so low I just can't get by with it. :-)

David,
Were you able to download the zip file?
I can get to his webpage
Movieing Memories - WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY, AUSTIN. Call (512) 584-0065
but I can't get to
http://movieingmemories.com/Cannon-XF100-Settings.zip

I keep getting "Requested URL was not found on this server."
Must be doing something dumb.
