Canon XF100 and XF300 Pricing Decreases
 

Has anyone noticed that the used prices of the Canon XF series camcorders are decreasing? Is Canon about to come out with a new line of cameras?

We'll know about a new line of cameras if and when they announce it. Rebates and price drops are part of marketing and by themselves are not predictors of future announcements.

The "new" prices have come down, so naturally the used prices will come down as well.

The XF300 has gone from $6800 to $5999 late last year, and to $4999 early this year, and is currently $4695 at B&H. Several days ago it went down yet again to $3999, but came back up to the current price the very next day. I regret not jumping on it.

I'd be surprised if Canon doesn't announce a replacement by NAB.

WOW, I missed the $3,999.99 pricing at B&H. I surely would have jumped on that. NAB 2013 is less than a month away. I would be very surprised if Canon announced any new EOS Cinema of XF cameras. To the best of my knowledge there have been no chatter online about anything other than some new lenses, a 7D replacement and perhaps some super camera with at 50 MB Sensor.

I'm looking forward to a new XF line up from canon, but would the xf100's replacement compete with the current xf300?

seems like the xf100 is lacking only what the xf300 has, which explains the price difference.

At this point, If price is similar, I am not wiling to purchase anything that doesn't shoot 4K. I can't say that I need it nor do my clients request it but like anything else, it seems to be a tool that will at some point be used.

Also, in my last comment, I mentioned that I had not heard anything regarding any new Cinema EOS cameras and sure enough as soon as I hit the "Submit Reply" button, I found out that Canon has a camera coming out that will fit between the C100 and the C300. My best guess is a C200. Given the price of the C100, this will not be on any of my shoots anytime soon.

The XF300, in my opinion, is still overpriced. The 100 has a limited zoom. Canon needs a new camera for NAB.

Makes you wonder when a camera can go from $6,800 to $3,999 in a span of six months. What is the real value? Sure tech loses a lot of value over time but this is ridiculous. Obviously the $6,800 price tag was overcharging a bit. Owners have no chance to sell used without taking a huge bath.

Our current state makes me think twice about buying anything substantial these days as it just does not hold any value over time like it used to.

If they do come out with a new model, it will be interesting what they start the pricing at.

It was first priced at $6800 when it was released 3 years ago.

The typical product life of Canon's Prosumer/Professional camcorders has been about 3 years -the time until the next release. The notable exceptions have been the GL2 and the L2 (Hi8). So if they are true to form, and the XF is 3 years old, a replacement announcement may well be in the wings.

Price drops are also driven by what the competition is charging, availability, margins, and demand.

True, the XF300 mainly listed for $6,400 at B&H. Not that it matters but it was at $6,400 around July-August of last year.

I have been waiting for the price drop on the XF300. I will able to buy it once the price drops. For usage at the church.

I hope the 305 comes down just a little bit more. I have long been wanting to upgrade from my XHA1s and the 305 seems to be the right choice. Unfortunately for me, the SDI out is a big deciding factor for the work I do. In a perfect world I would be dual wielding a 305 and c100.

Is the XF series really that much better than the XLH series of HD cameras? Many people think that the XH cameras are the same but they are clearly two totally different cameras. In my opinion, the XLH series captures images that are above and beyond the capabilities of the XHA1 or the XHA1s.

I'm wondering if the price difference between the two are justifiable.

90% of the work I do is traveling with an MLB team all summer. I am shooting various interviews and scenic shots every day so a tape based work flow makes absolutely no sense to me. The stuff I am shooting is for broadcast as well so the codec is right where it needs to be, and I export it all to and EVS in a production truck so having an SDI out is a huge advantage rather than having to use any kind of adapters. The channel I am contracted through gives me a big Sony XDCAM to work with but I prefer a smaller camera for doing scenic shots so that I can easily get on to boats, into planes, and generally walk around cities without lugging a huge camera around.
