Abstract Short shot with A1

I took a trip to bombay beach for a photo shoot acouple weeks ago (look it up it's a nice place to shoot). It was around 115 degrees and insanely humid, So since I was there I thought I'd try and shoot a little something. There was no planning or story for this short and I'm open to all your feedback.

It was shot in 24f mode, mostly with the 1/32 nd filter on, so I could keep the aperture opened all the way and try and get some nice shallow DOF shots without sacrificing my shutter speed.

this is all shot WITHOUT a 35mm adapter

you can find the short at http://www.morningnapalmfilms.com/ under the title - DESOLATE.

That was really freaking cool. I really, really liked that. It had a Hills Have Eyes feel to it. And it looked insanely film-like. Good job dude.

I'm currently downloading the version under link #2

well, i wouldnt call it shallow dof, but it was ok. One thing I didnt like is the first appearance of the actress. First running at 00:52 and just a second later lying on the ground. First thing I thought is that she was running, tripped over and lay there (knocked out). Id show her running a bit longer so the audience can spot her free hands, and after that I'd show her tied hands and only then her lying there.
As I said, just one thing, the rest is good

Really nice look, Nick. What was your post process? It looks like you did some color work.

man that was awesome! seeing that really shows off what great DOF you can achieve with the a1. i loved the quick shot of the girl running, freaked me out. for a quick shoot, you were able to get something pretty abstract but cohesive at the same time. it all works really well together great work!

Adam Rench September 13th, 2007 03:29 PM

damn dude. I think you just sold me on the A1. I was tossing up the A1 vs. the HD110.

Excellent stuff!!
