How to best "make do" for awhile?

First a little background on my particular situation.

I've had the A1 for less than a week.Great machine!!I got Premiere Pro CS 3 software just yesterday. My computer is aging fast compared to current standards/requirements as it's only a Pentium 4/2.66 single CPU processor with only 1.25 gigs of memory.Hard drive space is not a problem. Then I come upon the downconversion thread recently posted. Also have Prem Pro 2 as well.

There seems to be quite a few threads where users are being challenged to marry and successfully integrate the A1 and CS3 to some degree.I don't know how much to attribute the reasons for that to inexperience, lack of knowledge or the two have compatibility problems not addresed by Adobe yet. Considering the limited processing power on my computer,my goal for the shorter term is to get the best quality DV video obtainable by downconverting from HDV foootage.

So my questions are these.

1)What are my options for work flow..what path should yield the best results?
Am I better off to downconvert within the A1 itself or use Prem Pro CS3?If your answer is the latter how does one achieve that?

2)I have about 5 years of experience with a pair of GL-2's.With the above in mind,am I better off shooting in HDV 60i or 30F since 30p is not an option which Is what I'm accustomed to.Or does it really make an appreciable/discernable difference at all?Visually what's the difference between the 2?Are there certain advantages of each?

Thanks for all input posted in return.
