First test shoot with my xh-a1
 

Hi everyone,

I've been reading here for a long time but have yet to post. After recently buying a new canon xh-a1 I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying learning everything about this impressive machine. I'm fairly new to the pro camera scene and I'm taking my time, but having a lot of fun.

today i was able to shoot with the family on the beach at sunset and was able to throw this little montage together. I used the VIVIDRGB preset, and with the exception of a few blown out images near the end i think it came out well in my opinion. What do you guys think?

great shots, just need to get hold of your steadiness because it looks like some of the shots look like the operator didn't know what they are supposed to be focusing on. of course a monopod/tripod can really help with that :) Otherwise you have an eye for the shots.

I've found that when using the VividRGB preset, its an idea to use manual White Balance, otherwise when shooting in red light (sunset) it can be a little much. What other settings were you using.

thanks for the kind comments everyone. yes indeed i was shooting in 24f, no 35mm adapters though, just the stock lens which I happen to really like :-) and the location was on the beach behind my house. we live on a peninsula.

definitely had a problem with steadiness. i actually was using a monopod most of the time, but over uneven rocks and things like that it was still difficult to stay steady.

i will definitely try using manual white balance next time. i know what you mean by the harsh reds coming out in the sunset, my dad's face especially seemed a little too red.... although, i am actually color blind, so that doesn't help too much when trying to correct colors..... hmm.

I also used varying levels of ND filter throughout the shoot.
