Good DVD Tutorial for XH A1 (or book) and HD Question

Hello,

I'm loving my new XH A1 but the Canon manual leaves a lot to be desired in terms of explaining the practical uses of the many features the camera has. Can anyone recommend a good DVD tutorial or book for the A1.

Also, is HDV standard in widescreen 16:9 format or 4:3? I do see that you can record in SD 16:9, but what about HD?

Thanks for any insight,
Jack

I recently bought the "Inside the Canon XH A1 and XH G1" DVD from VASST, very nice and educative on the camera and the HDV format. See also this thread: http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/showthrea...ight=DVD+Vasst

Best regards,

Robert

I bought the Inside the Canon XH A1 and XHGi...too.

Although a well-done DVD, I dont feel its worth the price. Basically the presenters just go over the buttons and switches and tell you what they do. You can get all of this info free from the manual. The DVD does provide a few useful tips and mentions "add-ons" for the cam...

The instructors do a great job of presenting the material, but I feel the DVD is way overpriced. $25 would be a fair price.

HDV is always 16:9. With my XHA1, like any HDV cam, you only get to choose between 4:3 and 16:9 with SD video. If you are trying to mix HDV from your XHA1 with some 4:3 SD footage, most NLEs will give you a choice between converting your HDV footage to 4:3 by framing off the sides or converting your SD 4:3 to widescreen by lopping off the top and bottom (which is basically what the widescreen options does in every SD cam I've ever seen.)

Im caught in the same situation...I have a XH-A1 and a Canon GL1.

Id like to sell/trade my GL1, so that I could purchase a HD-30-40 to use as B cam and for capturing.
The GL1 is perfect. I had a new image chip installed and factory reset $400 buck worth !

If anyone has a HD cam for sale please let me know.
