People and Places Reel
 

Not everyone appreciates epic nature shots so I was forced to rethink my reel. Actually, I created another one independent of my nature stuff and concentrated more on doc style stuff...I wanted to show the versatility of my shooting style...this is a constantly evolving reel so if you check it again later, chances are you'll see new shots :)

How did you do that last dolly down style shot of the man walking towards you in the garden?

And the shot low to the ground with leaves and the man running towards you?

The closing shot was achieved using a 18ft jib/crane.

The low angle moving shot was done with an Indislider on the ground.

As always, your video is stunning! And as a reel it is quick and to the point.

Have you been working on any narrative work? It looked as if some of the stuff came from non-documentary things.

Also, as Issaquah/Sammamish is my hometown, its nice to see places and names getting representation in your videos. Very cool!

PS. Was that silver human statue mad at you for filming him? or was he just playing around?

Ryan, thanks for the comments. This reel is a combination of documentary/corporate/music video and some personal travel stuff.

The human statue guy was a hustler. If he saw anyone with a camera, he stuck his cup in their face. Mine included. I guess he figured he'd get a bigger tip with a bigger camera. Unfortunately for him, he was wrong :)

That's what I figured. Those guys always think they deserve something for being on camera.

You are very talented and I always enjoy the look your footage has with the Letus. It is a little weird switching back and forth between it and the stock A1 but I doubt many will notice. I didn't really see anything that needed changing.

Great reel Steven, it's composed very well and everything looks top-notch. I always enjoy checking out the footage you post!

What worked for me in the reel were the first 21 seconds, all the hospital and gym based material. In particular the shots which didn't work were the standard interviews at the beginning- just head shots with no sound- fairly generic, and the wide shot of the girl doing gymnastics. Also the clown and the silver man were more weird than compelling.

This is just my opinion and meant to be constructive criticism to get you a better reel...

Shots I liked :

Groundshot with the man running towards

Piano shots

Clown shot (was actually a cool effect with him jumping out of focus)

Nice ending shot with the guy falling off the jetski, matched song perfectly

Shots not too fond of :

2 girl interview shots (I liked the old man's shot though, nice lighting)

Gymnastic shot

Thanks for the feedback everyone. As mentioned before, this is a constantly evolving reel. What's up there right now represents the best of what I have in this relatively new genre for me. As I get better shots, the reel will become more solid.
