Avid Capture Issue

Has anyone successfully captured footage from the AH A1 into Avid Media Composer 2.8?

My captured footage has small horizontal distortions about every minute, especially if there is movement within the frame.

The footage is fine when viewed on the camera and also captures fine into Premiere Cs3 on the same machine - so it has to be an Avid issue.

My machine has decent specs:
Quad Core 2.4GHz With 3 Gig of RAM running XP with a NVIDIA GeForge 8600 GT Graphics Card

I'm shooting at 50i and have the Avid Res set at HDV 1080i/50 MXF and I'm using the Canon XLH1 50 as the deck controller.

I'm really familiar with Avid which is why I would like to cut this project on it rather than learning Premiere.

Any advice/thoughts/workarounds would be most appreciated!

Many thanks

Hugh

Any way to post a screen shot or clip?

If you're just looking at the composer or preview monitor it could just be your Nvidia graphics card isn't redrawing fast enough, since it's not a qualified card to begin with. If it's actual output to a program monitor (LCD, CRT) then I have no idea.

Unfortunately it's on the captured footage during playback (and also seen during the capture process). It's almost like whatever process is used to capture the footage within AVID isn't fast enough to handle movement within the GOP.

Hmmm strange, I just did an export and it didn't show any distortions - so you might be right - the video card might not be up to scratch for decoding GOP files with movement on the fly. It's getting fairly late here so I'll try a export back to tape as a litmus test tomorrow.

Many thanks

Cool. Good luck. At least you may have found the culprit.

- Yes. I works with MC v3.0 now, everythink is all right too.

Out to tape is just fine - so you were bang on with identifying the card as the problem! I'm currently eying up a Quadro 3450.

Many thanks

Great! Let us know how mean the Quadro is :)
