Sennheiser me-2 lav needs repair - worth it ??

My lav on my ew-100 got frayed right near the jack connection - don't think I can cut and solder - so I either need a shop repair - or just replace it at $140. I am guessing it will be close to $100 to have a new threaded 1/8" jack added to it.

I have tested a fairly cheap alternative mic that I had with an azden backup unit - and it seemed to work fine.

I was wondering if there were any thoughts out there about this mic - I think it is known as the ME-2 - is that mic worth replacing or getting fixed - or is there some alternative out there that I should consider ?

I'd replace it with a Countryman B3.
You can order it with the Sennheiser plug.

Repair by a professional movie/TV audio shop should be about $35. I had a new Sennheiser plug put on a Tram a few months ago.

However, I agree that rather than buying a new one of these mics, it would be worth it to get a better mic, such as the Countryman, a Tram TR50 or whatever type/size (and mounting options) would work best for how the mic is being used.

I think it is, but then I do my own repair work. Any half decent electronics shop will be able to fix that plug for you. If you want the original type plug, I suggest you get it, then bring the mic and new plug with you to the shop. It shouldn't take a half hour to complete. If I were still in that business, I'd likely charge you a minimum one hour labor fee.

Good luck!
