Auto shut-off problem

Hola amigos, I'm back with yet another question.
On the XL1S' if I wanted to record to a laptop I would just not put a tape in and the auto shut-off feature wouldn't work. How do you go about recording via firewire (and no tape)?
Looking at the manual it looks like you can disable the auto shut-off somehow in custom settings but I'd like for it to work if I have a tape in it and forget to turn it off as I've read it's bad for the heads (or something).
Just wondering what you guys do.
Thanks,
Randy

Hola GR. Either you have to learn to remember to turn the cam off or disable the auto shut off each time you run via firewire.
Cheers.

I disabled the auto shut-off - it was one of the first things I did. I just followed the instructions in the manual. Now I occasionally forget to switch it off properly at the end of a shoot, and run out of battery.
