XHA1s and Sony Vegas HD Movie Studio 10 Capturing Issue
 

I am a new XH owner (2 weeks or so) and I have some footage that I want to capture to my PC (Brand New Dell XPS 9100 Performance Desktop).....

I can connect the Camcorder using Firewire, the PC detects the camera, I boot up Vegas, go to Capture Video, select HD......

I have the signal setup on my camera set to the right HD settings.....

When I start to stream the video, I can start to capture and it mostly looks fine, however there are times when the video looks pixelized and messes up during the capture..........it doesn't say it's dropping frames, it's just not capturing clean in all spots.......it's very frustrating......

When I capture the footage in MS Movie Maker Live, it captures awesome, no issues, looks great (but then I can't edit it in Vegas because it's in the dvr-ms format)

Any suggestions out there?

Try a different firewire cable, close all other applications. Also if you have Cineform try to capture with it.

Personally, I use HDVSplit for HDV capture. And the m2t files go right into Vegas Movie Studio.

You need to be sure your capture settings are correct in Vegas, I know I had to change some settings on Vegas Pro 9, unfortunately I am not at home to advise on my settings right now. Also note that what you see being captured is not an indication of the quality of the footage you have taken.

You would be better posting in the "When in Vegas" group on this site - which is what I originally did to get the correct capture settings

If you still can't get it working, and the other suggestions don't pan out, try to capture with CapDVHS. A free program that took away all my capture headaches. Files are perfect for Vegas.

Thanks everyone. Sorry I haven't replied lately, I actually saw another thread where someone used HDVSplit so I went and tried it, looks like it's just what I am looking for.
