Some will cut off the front of the voice event (turn-on time), others have a pre-record buffer that captures a second or two before the turn-on trigger event is sensed ensuring you do not miss the start of the audio.

Is lip-sync (audio matches lip movement) important to your production? That can be difficult if audio recording and corresponding video are not continuous.

Lip sync wouldn't be that important for those scenes, I'll most likely cut to something else relevant. Any suggestions for a cheap buffer enabled voice activated recorder? :)

Okay, I've managed to borrow a couple of voice activated dictaphones from the university.

Now for the microphone. Is it worth buying cheap mics? They'll be unbalanced so I'm unlikely to use them in conjunction with my xha1, so unsure what to do it that regard. I'll certainly have to get/make a mini deadcat for each...
