Size of A1?

Hey, Chris--Since you've seen these cameras in the flesh, how is the size in comparison to the PD150? Smaller, larger, about the same?

Chris Hurd September 18th, 2006 12:18 PM

Hi Bill, quite a bit larger than the PD150. At first glance it's about the same size as the Sony FX1 / Z1. Not much smaller than an XL2 / XL H1. In other words, they're bigger than they look.

Bill Pryor September 18th, 2006 12:31 PM

Excellent. While tinycams have their place, that's not what I'm interested in at this point. Things get too small and they're...too small. By my standards the Z1 is a small camera, and I shot with one over the weekend and thought, "This is cool...I could learn to like this...but it would be nice if it had 24p." (Which reminded me that there's a good reason to wait for the Canon.)

Talking abt how small camera can get.... is it possible to add an add-on to make the camera shoulder-mounted? some sort of rig or something??

Anyone has any idea what I'm talking about?? (some links would b helpful)

I actually want to add on to david's post...

with the fixed lens, how many options are there, if any, for adapters and/or the like? matte boxes that fit the H1 will probably fit these also, i assume??

Do you mean something like this:

David Liu September 20th, 2006 10:49 AM

Thanks for ur reply bill... Yes - but I wonder if there is something more 'solid' and 'cool' maybe something like those RED has :P

And as what Joseph has added,
with the fixed lens, how many options are there, if any, for adapters and/or the like? matte boxes that fit the H1 will probably fit these also, i assume??

David we have an entire forum dedicated to shoulder supports of all kinds. It's located at http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?f=121

And don't overlook the SpiderBrace: www.spiderbrace.com

A friend got a Cavision matte box and shoulder brace for his Z1. It's very cool and not too pricey. http://www.cavision.com/pictures/pictures.htm

Apparently I need to go exploring the listed forums to find what sub-forums exist! There's a whole lot more to this site than first meets the eye.

I own a spider brace but I am not sure if it will hold the XH-A1. The model I have is the Spiderbrace 2. Would be nice if it worked.

I hope this is COOL ENOUGH :)

Bill Pryor September 26th, 2006 12:41 PM

Those Zacuto rigs are very nice. I saw several of them in Chicago a few weeks ago. Not cheap, but very well made and solid.

Jason Strongfield September 26th, 2006 01:38 PM

yep, but all of their stuff are very expensive though :(
