dial in white balance on a1/g1?
 

sorry if this has been asked/answered before. i thought the dialable wb was one of the coolest features on the h1, and wanted to know if this feature would be carried over to the a1/g1.

Yes. Dial-in WB is a feature of both the G1 and A1. Same range of color temp. adjustment as the XL H1.

I've been reading through the manual and it refers to a "K dial" in the section describing the white balance adjustments. Where is this dial?

On the top under the LCD (when it is closed) is a little switch that has 3 positions for white balance.

1>indoor
2>outdoor
3>color temp

put it in position 3 then set the whitebalance swith on the side to "pre".

Now when you hit the white balance set button (normally used when aiming at a white card) the shutter wheel becomes the color temp wheel. Rotate it and you move through the entire range. Hit the white balance set button again to disengage the wheel and you are back to shutter wheel.

That has been puzzling me (what the k dial was). I don't think it is mentioned - at least not in the UK manual. Either that or I didn't read it correctly.

The manual assumes a lot of knowledge and often doesn't provide much explanation (it's a bit pants)

Mark, you're only partially right: it is mentioned in the context of how to use it, but not where it's located. But - if you've looked through the manual, you must have taken a look at the camcorder itself? The shutter thumbwheel is clearly labelled "shutter/K".
