Question about tape in HD camaras?

Ok I am still tring to learn about HD camcorders...Do HD camcorders still use DV tapes or something else? Because I read somewhere that the panasonic takes some kind of card instead of tape..? Is so, is this the same with canon..?

thanks

HDV cameras use miniDV tapes, whereas the Panasonic HVX200 is not an HDV camera; it uses the DVCProHD format and records that onto a proprietary P2 flash-based card. All of them, including the HVX200, record DV to a standard miniDV tape as well.

ok, so with the HVX200 you have the option of either putting it on miniDV or the P2 card? And does it look better when you put it on the P2 card instead of miniDV? Does it make a diffrence?

Javier, the MiniDV tape transport on the Panasonic HVX200 is for standard definition video recording only. The P2 flash memory cards can record standard or high definition video. If you're talking about high definition video, then it's going to be recorded to the P2 cards. Not the MiniDV tape transport.

The HVX200 is not an HDV format camcorder. Instead it's a DVCPRO HD format camcorder. Please use the "P2 Info Net / Articles" links in the blue bar at the top of this page to access our P2 F.A.Q. and Resources section. Use the information you find there to become better educated about P2 and DVCPRO HD. I wrote that P2 F.A.Q. specifically for these sort of questions, so please go through it. Thanks in advance,
