Henry,
Those are some nice clips there. I like the city one a lot at -3db, I'm really excited about this new cam. Should have one as well later this month. Thanks for taking the time and posting these.

thanks everyone.

poppe and tony, thank you for chiming in on the playback issue.

dave, the only other cam i have access to at the moment is my hv10, and i doubt that's the comparison you're looking for :). low light isn't a huge concern for me -- demand seemed to dictate that some kind of low light footage be put up, but at this point i guess i'm as curious as anyone else. someone should be able to post something shortly.

looks fantastic! I do still wish to see a controlled FX1 vs A1 low light contest!!!

If the A1 is as good as or even very close to the FX1 in low light I forsee a ton of ppl dumping their FX1's for the Canon!

I would recommend encoding the files via wmvhd/h264 to greatly reduce bandwidth/download times!

Did you shoot any at normal shutter speed? ie., 1/48 at 24f.

Henry Cho November 7th, 2006 07:25 PM

thanks for the suggestion michael. i'll keep that in mind the next time.

bill, for the purposes of this low light test, everything was shot at 1/24, which i think falls in the range of normal.

Bill Pryor November 8th, 2006 10:18 AM

I don't think 1/24 could be considered normal shutter speed unless you're looking for a slower shutter effect. It would be just like 1/30 in 60i.

Henry Cho November 8th, 2006 10:57 AM

i use 1/24 all the time if i need a little more light in the cam. i'd rather do that than switch up gain. given what i'm shooting here, the slower shutter is, to me, barely perceptible, if at all.

Matthew Nayman November 8th, 2006 11:02 AM

You see 1/24 all the time on shows like HOUSE and even in movies like Scary Movie 4. Most people wont know what about the image is wrong, and wont mind...

Can't see the video

It says "unknown file type"

Henry Cho November 8th, 2006 04:06 PM

daniel, got your email. wmp can't play mpeg2 files out of the box. download vlc media player, which seems to play just about anything.
