High speed motion, 1080i or 30F?

Hey guys....I prefer using the 30F mode with the A1 because of the lack of interlacing. If I were shooting high speed sports etc, would I get nearly the same results using 30F with high shutter speeds as I would with the normal 1080i setting or would I see some form of strobing?

I have friends who want me to capture footage of radio control gas cars that top 70MPH and look like bees zipping around the track....I want to capture smooth motion and was wondering if the 30F mode with the higher shutter speeds work well enough to provide smooth footage or am I forced to use 1080i for the smoothest motion?
Thanks

(I know for the most part 1080i is the preferred mode for smooth motion- but is smooth motion possible at all with 30F and high shutter speeds- or should I avoid 30F altogether with fast moving objects?)

Good luck on this one. If 1080i or 30p doesn't cause you problems, 15 GOP mpeg2ts compression probably will.

I video'd radio control cars, 30p is going to look stuttery, 60i is going to have trails and ghosting from the codec unless you pan perfectly.

The best result I got was with the ubiquitous JVC GR-HD1 that had a 480p60 mode, true 60 fps progressive and 6 GOP mpeg compression.

Tom if you had to choose 1 method- which would you- 30F or 1080i with the A1?

Wouldn't accept my answer Steve? Lol...

okay.

1080i, 1/100th shutter
