A1 at warp speed...

I shot this the other day with the A1 and the WA adapter to see if I could get something that looked like the equivalent of 2 fps undercrank. I'm pretty happy with the results.

Shot 24F,1/3 shutter, sped up 1200% in FCP.

There should be a grab attached.

Just for fun :)

very cool. how did you have the camera mounted? No vibration is apparent.

Barlow Elton February 1st, 2007 09:20 PM

Thanks Jim. I simply wedged a tripod in front of the passenger seat.(yanked as far back as it would go)

Chris Hurd February 1st, 2007 10:13 PM

Wow, it was just like Koyaanisqatsi. Nice work as always, Barlow!

Steven Dempsey February 2nd, 2007 10:04 PM

Awesome stuff, very hypnotic. What was the song and the band?

Barlow Elton February 2nd, 2007 11:23 PM

It's David Bowie and I think Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) produced it.

From Lost Highway.

Cool stuff. I thought I recognized downtown SLC.

On the other hand, it kinda reminds me of my commute.

Only a bit more hectic. :)

Very nice work on this clip. The A1's ability to deal with CCD vertical light streaking is actually pretty impressive.

Glenn Thomas February 8th, 2007 06:42 AM

Wow, that's brilliant! Now I am definitely convinced I need to get myself an A1.

Bogdan Tyburczy February 8th, 2007 10:29 AM

Great work - thanks Barlow!

It's amazing what can be done without actual over/undercrank functions. Maybe it's because in most cases we are interested in extremes: 60 fps or very slow. As you have shown before, slow-mo generated from 60i looks beautiful also.

Glenn Thomas February 9th, 2007 02:18 AM

Nice detail too. I was curious to find out what city in the US it was shot in. So I paused the tape and checked one of the car's number plates. Utah, cool. Doubt that would be possible to see if it was shot with an SD cam.

Barlow, is your XL H1 slow motion footage still available? I tried the link but it didn't work.

Steven Dempsey February 9th, 2007 08:16 AM

It was shot in Salt Lake City

You were looking for this shot? It's A1 actually. http://media.dvinfo.net/canonxh/JoeySlowH264.mov 15 MB QT

Thanks, I must have missed that one. Looks good! Did you increase the shutter speed to 120 for that one?

Yes, 1/120 shutter is the equivalent of 180 degree shutter angle for 60 fps recording. (which is sorta what 60i is, after you "dezipper" it. :)

I like that speed because the result can look smooth and natural.
