Vielen Dank Wolfgang!
That was a good read. Impressed by the work you put in there.

Bitte schön ;-)

Wolfgang,

Thank you for all that hard work! A few questions. I notice you like to use NR1 set to Low even at -3db. On my cam I see notable ghosting even at NR1 set to Low. Is my camera not working properly?

Have you noticed any ghosting?

Thanks,
Cesar

There's no problem with your camera. I think any of the NR1's should at the very most be used for static shots if at all.

Bill

I made no moved shots thereby (Colorchart+static szene). I will test more exactly tomorrow.

NR1 should not be use for moving video especially with panning, if the shot is lock down and the subject moves slow then it is acceptable at level 1.

The Preset "-3dB" is now with NR1=0......

Wolfgang, I tried your -3db preset yesterday in bright sunlight and the resulting takes look very convincing on my Computer LCD! Thank you!
My impression is that the image has slightly too much green though. So how do I reduce green without destroying your overall color composition of the preset? Thanks in advance, Michael Mann

<My impression is that the image has slightly too much green though.>

Hmmmmm......... it's your LCD? The GGN from 0 to -3 is this better?

Eric Weiss April 10th, 2007 09:22 AM

That's a great preset! I've named it "Wolfgang" for Props. :)

Michael Mann April 10th, 2007 10:34 AM

Wolfgang, I guess the slightly greenish look really was my Eizo-LCD since I watched the clips in Text-mode. Watching them in Movie-mode instead the color balance looks very, very good. In fact the best I've seen so far.

There are three personal modifications I'd probably like to do (-3db preset):
Changing gamma from NORMAL to CINE 1, knee from AUTO to LOW (possibly safer!) and black from PRESS to MIDDLE. Doing so doesn't effect your color balance composition, right?

In addition: Can you please explain your settings DHV5 and COR-2 ?

Thanks again.

Alex Leith April 11th, 2007 02:32 AM

Thanks Wolfgang. Great work and a nice looking preset!

Michael Mann April 11th, 2007 10:37 AM

Alex, since you tested Wolfgangs preset (and find it convincing), I'd be interested to know what preset you have been using so far?

Alex Leith April 11th, 2007 11:02 AM

I had been using my own, which simply boosted the colour gain to 30, pulled the setup down and pushed the pedestal up a bit.

Didn't really like the overall balance of colours. Then I was testing out Steven Dempsey's new VIVID preset, which looks great, but boosts the red a touch. It looks great with white skintones - adds a really nice glow.

Wolfgang's preset seems to be a bit truer to nature colours. I'm testing out both of them at the moment.

I'd also like to know the theory behind DHV5 and COR-2.
