G1 jackpack questions

Can anyone confirm the following:

the video output is uncompressed HD? i.e. roughly 2 gigs / sec.
However, if I connect, let's say, a panasonic DVC Pro HD deck to this jack, can each record device downconvert this stream to its native resolution?. If this is so, then it follows that you can use a variety of HD record devices. The jack doesn't know the difference?

thx

Correct -- uncompressed, right off the chips.

Roughly 1.5 gigs / sec. (1.485gbps)

Right -- same for HDCAM, DigiBeta, etc.

The jack puts out a SMPTE standard signal. That's all that matters. It doesn't care what kind of VTR it's connected to. Then it's up to each SDI-equipped deck to record it in whatever format that particular VTR happens to be. For more information, see the first paragraph of my article at http://www.dvinfo.net/canonxlh1/xlh1skinny.php -- written for the XL H1 but also applies to the XH G1.
