New Music Video Shot with the A1
 

I had just finished shooting a new music video in Israel, along with the Canon XH-A1.

Cinematography was done by Ram Shani, who is already a veteran member at this community...

The A1 continues to amaze. Although I didn't understand the lyrics, it was beautiful. Great camera work.

Did you use presets? if yes, which ones.

Also do you mind sharing some insights, like f stops and shutter speed.

Special lighting techniques....

It looks very filmy.... did you use 35 mil adapter? or pos production film effect?

What was used to light it...presets and all.

There was almost no color correction done on the shots whatsoever, everything there came from within the camera.
Also no presets were used, but I believe some parameters in the camera's color balance were modified...

this was shot with my letus35fe and my canon FD lenses wide open(f/1.4 f/2)


the lighting was very simple for the restaurant :

3 Blondy bounce to the ceiling and 2k baby for moving light out side that was used for to light the background

i tried to avoid classic back light (like a frech light style very soft and open)



i don't remember what the set up was in camera but it was very simple

use the preset3200 maybe adjust it a little
shutter speed 1/25


we had luck finding good location

How did you get it to look so good on youTube?
 

This is a great looking video and looks very filmy.
I'm pulling my hair out trying to get some hdv footage which looks very good in the NLE (I edited it in iMovie just for kicks and it turned out good) and QT compressed and into youTube with out it ending up (after being compressed by them mostly) looking like it has been through the mill.

It baffles me so.

Great job and good work!
Any pointers in a direction to look in?

The video had an overall sad feel to it, which I think was the intention when reading the song title.

Duane - I rendered out to a 320X240 Divx File (about 2000 kbps bitrate), and found it to provide the best results on Youtube, in terms of quality...

The great lighting, 24p(f) from the Canon, the camera and the Letus
Starting out with a really good look really helps a lot too I'm understanding.

Having the render parameters helps so much - thanks for the info - I will investigate.

ps - interesting to note that you shot in 16:9 hdv (i'm assuming), the video on youTube is letterboxed and yet you submitted it in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Interesting voodo going on.

But it is like 2.35:1. How did you make it?.

The project was edited on an HDV 1080 preset, which means it was 16:9. I placed a cinemascope "bounder" on top as well, to match the way we shot it.

Then, when I rendered the 320X240 avi, I gave it a 4:3 ratio in the settings. This produces the same effect as if you would take a 2:35 film and play it in a 4:3 television, it would automatically place the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen (4:3 letterbox)
